A more affordable, sustainable, and just Cambridge — built together.

We can make Cambridge a city that works for all of us.

From housing and child care affordability, to safe streets, functional public transit, and more — with a vision and hard work, we can make it a reality in Cambridge.

Meet Jivan

My mom and I depended on affordable housing & childcare while she worked and went to school as a single-parent.

I’m running to make sure we provide more of both in Cambridge.

My family didn’t have a lot of economic stability growing up, but we did have each other. My mom and I moved 7 times throughout Massachusetts and PA before I turned 10 while she looked for work and went back to school. We depended on affordable housing & childcare, and I’ve spent my career working to make sure others have the same access to those critical services that I did.

I previously served on the City Council in 2020-2021. In addition to dealing with all the challenges of the pandemic, I worked on legislation to create hundreds of new affordable homes in Cambridge, safer streets for pedestrians and cyclists, and more transparent and accountable government. I’m excited to build on that experience and hit the ground running if elected.

Since my previous term on the City Council, I’ve been working as the New England Progressive Governance Director for the Working Families Party. In my current role, I work with state & local elected officials, advocates, and residents around New England to craft legislation on affordable housing, child care, sustainability, and more.

Before starting on the Council, I worked with environmental programs at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, a nationally-recognized land policy think tank in Cambridge. I helped land trusts, academic institutions, and community organizations find the tools they needed to build sustainable communities.

Like two-thirds of Cambridge residents, I’m a renter. I’m a proud union member, an organizer by background, and a democratic socialist by commitment. I’m the son of a father from Goa, India and a mom from Iowa — so I speak Portuguese and have eaten a lot of sweet corn with butter. I live in Cambridgeport in a triple-decker with my partner Anna and our cat, Eden.

I’ve spent my career fighting for safe & reliable transportation, environmental justice, and housing & childcare affordability.
